The Sta. Rita Hills AVA and Santa Barbara wine country
all started with Sanford Winery.

The Sanford & Benedict vineyard was planted in 1971, and ever since, the wines hailing from that vineyard and the surrounding areas have served as a benchmark for superlative Pinot Noir coming out of the Sta. Rita Hills AVA.

One of these estate vineyards happens to be Rancho La Rinconada, and Sanford has made their name synonymous with greatness in large part due to this historic site. A cool climate wonderland thanks in large part to the east-west mountain range that runs from the Pacific Ocean to the vineyards, the coastal air and constant breezes make for an ideal climate that happens to produce world-class California Pinot.

Bursting with layers of earthy cherries, black raspberries, fennel seed, and crushed pomegranates, this is a red-fruit symphony dripping with intensity, depth, and silky texture. The wine sat in barrel for 14 months, enhancing the rich flavors and rounding out all the edges, and let us say right now this is stimulation city for the senses!

A shining example of quintessential California Pinot in all its glory, the 2015 La Rinconada brings a style and substance that is completely its own, and is 100% spectacular! The critics seem to take note as well, as some heavy hitters all dropped matching 92s, reinforcing the quality of the fruit and the serious pedigree of the vintage.

Lick your lips crimson deliciousness that hits all the right buttons, this is one California Pinot you most certainly want to get your hands on.

Wine Enthusiast

From a vineyard planted in 1997, this bottling offers aromas of tart pomegranate, wild rose, crushed carnations and wild sage on the nose. The palate is bright yet hearty and earthy, with flavors of herb, all spice, cranberry and pomegranate.

The 2015 Pinot Noir La Rinconada has a slightly more perfumed, elegant style. Red and black raspberries, flowers, rose petals, and spicy notes all flow to a medium-bodied, ethereally textured Pinot Noir that has nicely integrated acidity and moderate tannins. There's more mid-palate depth in the Sanford & Benedict release, yet this shines for its complex, lively style. Drink it over the coming decade.
